(in-camera double exposure)
In-camera double exposure is a technique where two separate images are captured and merged in-camera at the moment of shooting — without any post-processing or digital manipulation. The result is unpredictable and unrepeatable — each image is a unique outcome of light, timing, and chance.

Wedding Chair
Titirangi, Auckland, 2025.
Giclée photographic print
My work is influenced by the 19th century movement, the Pictorialists, where photographers like Julia Margaret Cameron deliberately softened focus to bring photography closer to painting. This image was shot through a gauze mesh, softening the image to create the feeling of memory.

Long exposure photography uses
a slow shutter speed to capture movement over time — blurring motion while keeping the static world sharp. For me it's the closest photography gets to painting — the image becomes less about what something is and more about colour, form, shape, and movement.

Threshold
Parnell, Auckland, 2025.
Giclée photographic print
Sometimes, instead of a slow shutter speed, I shoot deliberately out of focus — when sharpness is removed, the image distils down to what remains: colour, light, and shape. Composition becomes everything. It's a way of seeing that sits closer to painting than photography.

Passed
Auckland CBD, 2023.
Giclée photographic print
Spotted through a minimart window in the CBD, I was drawn to the iridescence of these flowers through the smoky haze of the perspex. Flowers speak so many languages — love, grief, commerce. I like the ambiguity.
