I am interested in the interface between hidden and constructed narratives; how the stories we tell about ourselves morph and evolve depending on the audience and situation. Placing a random figure in a landscape creates a set of unique possibilities.

Who is this person and why are they there? What is their story?

 

For me, the visual and psychological serendipity of painting on found backgrounds creates a texture that seeps into the personality of the subject.  The risky, no-going-back nature of Indian ink offers challenges and spontaneous misadventures. A black and white image of Paris in the 1970s fuses with a painting of two sisters in their eighties. The two histories merge into an alternative one, whose truth will reflect the unique perspective of the viewer.
