I am interested in the interface between hidden and constructed narratives; how the stories we tell about ourselves morph and evolve depending on the audience and situation. Placing a random figure in a landscape creates a set of unique possibilities.
Who is this person and why are they there? What is their story?
For me, the visual and psychological serendipity of painting on found backgrounds creates a texture that seeps into the personality of the subject. The risky, no-going-back nature of Indian ink offers challenges and spontaneous misadventures. A black and white image of Paris in the 1970s fuses with a painting of two sisters in their eighties. The two histories merge into an alternative one, whose truth will reflect the unique perspective of the viewer.

Dolls are often seen as the preserve of childhood - static symbols of the past. As adults, we lose the ability and inclination to be playful. In the hands of a child, a doll is a living extension of an inner world without boundaries or inhibition. The images in this series explore this dichotomy and pay homage to the imaginative worlds that children inhabit.
